Hon Thay Boi – The Island That Looks Like A Mouse
Hon Thay Boi aka Mouse Island
Just off the coast of Ganh Dau in the north western section of Phu Quoc lies Hon Thay Boi (Mouse Island), a tiny uninhabited island that literally resembles a mouse. Mouse Island in Phu Quoc is an ecotourism destination for low impact activities such as bird watching, freediving and snorkeling.
Mouse Island is close to the Cambodia maritime border and it is classified as a restricted zone. Tourists are not allowed to visit this island unless they have special permission from the local military. We were fortunate enough to have visited this rocky outcrop in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand as we are the official travel and tourism guide for Phu Quoc!

Mouse Island has no beach and it is surrounded by coral. Because of this we had to swim from our boat onto land. The island is home to a few nesting birds and the surrounding coast is teeming with marine life.

Mouse Island, or Hon Thay Boi, is a tiny island located off the North Western coast of Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. The island is called “Mouse Island” because it literally looks like a mouse – think Mickey Mouse. This island for the most part is off limits to most tourists as it is located close to the Cambodia border. However, as being the official travel and tourism guide for Phu Quoc, we had access to it so we can document the health of the coral system found there. The following is a raw video of the coral found around Phu Quoc’s mouse island:
