Phu Quoc Airport plans $45-million expansion as passenger growth exceeds forecast
More than 1 trillion VND(US$45 million) will be needed for the expansion of the airport on Phu Quoc resort island, as it is going to reach its full capacity sooner than expected. Expansion is set for 2016 which will allow the airport to increase its capacity by more than 66% and it’s gates by 300%. Forecasters are expecting that the airport will reach full capacity of 2,650,000 million people by 2017, 3 years ahead of schedule.
New International Routes
Direct flights to Phu Quoc from Hong Kong, Incheon, Bangkok, Kuala Lampur, and Manila are currently planned and slated to be operational for the 2015-2016 tourism season as well as re-establishing direct routes from various Russian cities.
Phu Quoc currently receives 600,000 tourists a year. Its new airport, which was inaugurated in 2012, is capable of handling 2.6 million visitors per annum.
