There is no lack of markets in Phu Quoc and visiting one of them is always a great experience – a window opened directly onto the daily life of local people. Here are the top 4, and only 4, markets found on the island:

Duong Dong is the largest town on the island and naturally it has the largest (and most popular) market in Phú Quốc District. At the Duong Dong Market you can find a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood, and housewares. This market is a photographers dream, especially early in the morning when the market comes alive. The best time to visit the Duong Dong Market is between 6:00am to 9:00am.

2. An Thoi Market – Chợ An Thoi

Located at the southern tip of the island, An Thoi is the second largest town on Phu Quoc and the gateway to the An Thoi Archipelago. The An Thoi Market is a popular market for fresh produce and seafood, great for photo opportunities, and to give you an insight into a bygone way of life. An early morning start is worth it in order to see this southern market at its liveliest. It is here at the An Thoi Market that you will find the strangest sea creatures for sale, most which should not be consumed by humans in our opinion.

3. Ganh Dau Market – Chợ Gành Dầu

The Ganh Dau Market is a small market located in Ganh Dau Village in the North Western part of Phu Quoc. This local market is the place to go to buy the cheapest seafood on the island (as of 2015). Because of its remote location the Ganh Dau Market hasn’t yet been frequented by foreign tourists, however with the emergence of social networks and online photo sharing, it has become extremely popular for the new generation of Vietnamese to rediscover the authenticity of remote places.

4. Ham Ninh Market – Chợ Hàm Ninh

Ham Ninh Village is a small coastal village located on the eastern part of the island. It is famous for its’ long jetty and crab dishes. The market found here is also quite unique from the other 3 mentioned above. It is the only place on the island where you will find live seahorses and other small creatures for sale. The Ham Ninh Market is also a great place to buy crap for a very low price. Visit here in the morning to avoid the crowds.
