Paradise Island
Words cannot describe how beautiful this tiny speck of an island is. It was once a well kept secret but thanks to social media the islands popularity has grown. Many people from all over Vietnam come to Phu Quoc just to visit Xuong Island, which in Vietnamese is called Hòn Xưởng. The locals also refer to this island as hòn Robinson as per the popular, yet fictional novel, Robinson Crusoe.
The island, beach, and coastal waters are protected and are included in the Kien Giang Biosphere Reserve. Xuong Beach is one of the best and cleanest beaches in all of Phu Quoc.
Where To Stay
There are no accommodations on Hòn Xưởng, as it is very small but you can camp on the beach if you join a tour. You cannot camp on the island independently.
DIY Trips
If you want to commission your own boat, head down to An Thoi Port and walk towards the marina.
There will be plenty of fisherman there who will approach you and ask you if you want to take a tour. The average cost of commissioning a boat to Xuong Island is about 800,000VND per boat for an 4 hr trip and food is normally included (fish/crab, rice and salad). From An Thoi Port, the journey to the idyllic island takes about 45 minutes. There are also speedboat options and private cruises that are also available.
Xuong Island is located 15 km south of An Thoi Port. You can get to the island by boat or by seaplane (coming soon).
To get to the island by boat you can either join a tour or commission your own boat. If you join a tour, you can depart from either Bai Truong, Duong Dong, or Bai Sao – boats will be waiting for you by the beach.
The beach here on Xuong Island is very picturesque and you feel like you are truly in paradise. The sand here is white and powdery and the ocean is clean and blueish green in color. Even though it is small, it is one of Phu Quoc’s best beaches and it is still relatively unknown.
The view of the nearby Gam Ghi & Vong Island is spectacular, especially when there are no tour boats around.
The reef around the island is shallow which makes it perfect for snorkeling. There are a few hard coral species here, a lot of scattered rocks, and some seaweed. In terms of marine life, you may be able to see small schools of barracudas, giant clam, puffer fish here as well as a plethora of small technicolor fish.
That in Phu Quoc this island is sometimes referred to as “Fingernail Island” and that there are two islands called Fingernail Island, the one that we mention here and the other one located off the coast of Vung Bau Beach. The later is owned and managed by resort while the Fingernail Island in An Thoi is not managed by any company or resort.
