Flying Fox

This giant nocturnal bat (Pteropus) can be seen sleeping upside down during the day time.  Due to habitat loss and also the Chinese demand for exotic animals, the Giant Flying Fox will soon be extinct on Phu Quoc.

Where to spot: The mountainous areas of Rach Vem & Rach Tram

Silver Langur

Listed on the endangered species list, the Silver Langur (Trachypithecus germaini) is extremely hard to find.  In the past they were illegally caught and it is unknown how many are left in the wild today.

Where to spot: Where Cua Duong commune meets Bai Thom commune.  This area of Phu Quoc is where the core of the National Park is located.

Stumped Tailed Macaque

The stumped-tailed Macaque (Macaca arctoides) usually lives at higher elevations - especially around Mount Chua, the islands highest mountain.  Rare to spot unless you are camping at the Phu Quoc National Park.

Long Tailed Macaque

One of the easiest animals to spot on the island, and in Asia in general.

Where to spot: All around the island where there is dense forest.

Yellow-Throated Marten

The yellow-throated marten (Martes flavigula) can be seen east of the Duong Dong Lake and around the Da Ban Stream.

Giant Black Squirrel

The Giant Black squirrel (Ratufa bicolor) can be seen in the trees very early in the morning.

Where to spot: Cua Duong, Bai Thom

Leopard Cat

Very hard to find and probably on the brink of extinction.

Where to spot: Ham Rong, Hon Chao, Nui Chua, and Dai Beach area.

Civet Cat

Famous for making the pooh-coffee, civet cats can be found deep in the islands jungles.

Where to spot: Ham Rong, Hon Chao, Nui Chua, and Dai Beach area.
